To ensure their long-term success, it is imperative that organizations create a less biased environment, in which all team members feel they belong and can contribute to their full potential.
Anti-Bias
We all have prejudices and biases. They arise, among others, from oppressive systems, such as patriarchy, racism, ableism, classism, ageism, lookism and other -isms. These biases affect and shape our thought patterns to varying degrees, and can lead to us placing others into boxes and frames, which do not accord with who they actually are.
Because these thought patterns have been learned, we can unlearn them. We must become aware of biases, question them, actively address them. The ultimate goal is to form new patterns of behavior which allow us to appreciate people in all their wonderful uniqueness, rather than fitting them into preconceived notions.

Belonging
To create a culture of belonging, we must become aware of our biases, change conditioned thought patterns and act accordingly. Only then can we appreciate and perceive people for the unique individuals they are.
A sense of belonging is the employee's belief that they are accepted and even valued by colleagues for their individuality. These are everyday experiences that make a person feel safe in bringing their unique, authentic self to work. We unleash their full potential. It goes even deeper:

I am a political scientist (M.A., Otto-Suhr-Institut, Freie Universität Berlin), diversity and anti-bias trainer (A world of difference), systemic personal & business coach (Coaching Academy Berlin) and trained in non-violent communication. Bringing connectedness beyond biases into the world is my life's work.
I believe in a world where all people are free and equal, have a voice, are heard, seen and respected, live and contribute to their full potential - not just a select few.
